Welcome to our website - the 'window' to our club. Wednesday 10th March Sunny intervals 10°C. The winter weather is coming to an end.
There is a mistake on the Competition entry forms: Australian Pairs should read SAT 28th Aug NOT Sunday.
Wilkies Wednesday Wobblers.
Scenarios kindly supplied by Bert Wilkinson English Bowls Umpires Association National Umpire
Last one today!
Know the laws of the game, if you see your opponent bending them – have a word. The laws are there for a reason!
The laws of bowls can be found at http://www.worldbowlsltd.co.uk/laws/index.html
New scenario
Your team arrives early to play in an open competition and you are told that you may practice on a rink that will not be used during the competition. It is the only rink available and when you go to it you find that another team using it. The other team skip suggests that both teams practice together.
Question
Can you do this ?
Last weeks
You
are the marker for a singles match and before the game whilst you are checking
the rink markers you notice that there are no bank markers indicating 2 metres
from the end ditch on the side banks. You
ask the green steward to put some out and he tells you that they are not
compulsory.
Question
Is he correct?
Answer: No. Law 5.12
White or brightly coloured discs should be fixed vertically against the face of the side banks or on top of the side banks in the direction of play to mark distances of 2 metres and 25 metres from the end ditches ( see diagram 1 in appendix B4 ). Wherever possible, these should be the only pegs or discs visible on the side banks.

Sale items: We have been successful in finding new homes for a couple of items. If you have anything for sale - let me know. See sales link on left. boltonflatgreen@yahoo.com New items being added all the time.
Frostbite.
Next frostbite session, Saturday 1:30 for 1:45 start. (Only three left, last one 20th March)
March 8th positions can be found in the competitions link. Prizes go down to tenth place, there is quite a bit of bunching so an extra point here or there could take you up the rankings. Example: with the best aggregate on the day and a couple of fives you can score 11 points! All still to play for.
Celebrations in March
Monday was another successful
night (31 bowlers) at the Frostbite, we celebrated
birthdays with Janet
Cropper, Ken Workman & Dave Whalley, what a good do it was! Only one
Monday left - then I can go on a diet.
Monday 15th March Stephen Hemsley
Saturday 20th March As well as the Frostbite presentation we will also be
celebrating Ken Hayes birthday.
Anyone wanting to celebrate any occasion just let Pat know. She can be contacted at: patmcevoy987@hotmail.com
Introductory Event
We are holding an event on Saturday 10th April starting at 10:30am. This allows newcomers to the sport or to the club to get a feel for Flat green bowling at Bolton. There are notices around the club, further details will be published here later. Food will be provided on the day so an idea of the numbers, for catering, will be required.
Winter Australian Pairs League
Ted Harrison and Neil Meacham won the league on Friday. They beat their nearest challengers Dave Whalley and Dave Cremin and now have an unassailable lead.
Sunday's Bolton Open Crown code pairs competition.
This weeks winners Jeff Melia and Steve Mullington beat Bill Cropper and Graham Keating 11 - 7 in the final. Look at those shadows, what a fine day!

Improve your bowling - maybe!
To get us through this spell of inactivity I would like to hear your words of wisdom on bowling. boltonflatgreen@yahoo.com
Practice
Don’t have too many thoughts while bowling. Think too much about your game and you’ll end up bowling like one of the wooden tops. One game thought!
Badges: Further to a number of discussions, during the summer, around the green and traveling to and from matches - "how do we get our County Badges"? Well click here to find out. (Thanks Dave Cremin)

We have been very successful in recent years in introducing new members to
the flat code of bowling.
You don't need to buy a thing. Just conform with the *footwear rule* and borrow some bowls.
* You must change into heel-less shoes before going on to the green. Trainer-type footwear is OK in the short term. Do NOT arrive in the footwear you intend wearing on the green. We do have pairs of brand new flat-soled shoes that you could borrow.
If you wish to join our club you can download the form for Full and Social membership and for Junior membership.

About our club (in brief). We are situated in Leverhulme
Park and claim to
be - in terms of bowling achievements - the most successful club in the
country! But, don't just take our word for it, come to the pavilion and see
for yourself. Look at the photographs and the Honours Boards. Peruse the
many albums of Press Releases and photos and you'll get a flavour of what
we're about.
Learn to bowl - we have Instructors and
Coaches (EBCA-trained and CRB-cleared). We will provide all the equipment
required. All we ask is that you wear flat-soled shoes (trainer-type are
usually OK at first, as long as they don't have a chunky tread or a heel). We do have
quite a range of brand new Ladies and Gents bowling shoes for you to borrow,
if you wish. So, don't buy anything, until you've tried the sport! If you fancy a game of Crown bowls,
there's a 1st-class crown green next door - literally! Many of our members
play both codes and, if you just want to try the game I'm sure you'll be
able to borrow some woods. Of course, we'd like you to stay and
enjoy our hospitality and our food but, just a short walk away is the
Farmers Arms where you can get a splendid value-for-money meal. So, that's it for now. Please keep
visiting the site - it is updated almost daily and you can be sure of
finding out the absolute latest about the Club.. Thanks for dropping by.
There is a toilet for the disabled and we can supply a wheelchair for
disabled bowlers (or visitors).
Have a game - against some of the sternest opposition in the country.
Experience bowling on the latest state-of-the-art artificial surface.
Relax with your family - in the pavilion, around the green or take a stroll
through the park. There are many delightful walks by the riverside or
through the woods and there is a kiddies play area just 200 yards away.
For the more energetic, there's an athletics track, some 5-a-side football
pitches and a pitch 'n putt golf course.
There is a wonderful range of high street stores in the Town Centre - 5
minutes drive or you could visit the nearby Trafford Centre.
